Sewing: I finished my first shirt
Well, I finished my first shirt. It is a mess but it is my first shirt and I wore it around the house after I finished clipping the final threads. My husband was glowing, he was so happy for me. I am a silly head, so when things don't "work" out I make it "work" on some level and it is all fun time after that. My sewing machine's tension is all off. I noticed that is works on certain stitches and not the ones I wanted to use! So my stitches have strange tension. I tested it 30 times of a scrap piece of fabric and it worked fine, when I started on my shirt it was all wonky again. I decided to just keep it that way after ripping out the stitches 5 times. I learned a few things I needed to know on this shirt so now I am off to the next project..soon. Oh I will post a picture of the shirt on Saturday.

Oh man, this sounds like me! I have tension issues as well. Sewing is quite the learning experience isn't it? I made a keychain awhile back, and it may look strange to others, but I keep using it because I MADE IT and I love it to pieces! :-)
Congrats on your first shirt! Ha! I hate tension issues. I was ready to chuck my sewing machine and hand sew my kids Chhristmas Pagent Costumes...but likew you after you rip the stitches so many times... you just go with it!
Congrats on your first shirt! That is one of my goals of 2011, to try to accomplish some sewing projects!
oh i cant wait to see it! congrats on finishing it. I used to make my own skirts in the 80's when the wrap around were popular--wow i am dating myself here!
Good for you for making a shirt. Those sleeves can be a hassle.
My machine plays tension tricks on me as well.
Looking forward to seeing your finished project
Well done on completing the shirt - can't wait to see a pic! I am actually quite good at sewing - the only thing is I HATE it *lol* - silly really ... not sure why - too many yukky projects in Home Ec at school I think!
Also I have a wonky machine here in the US - I had to leave behind my lovely clever Elna in NZ - and when I got here I just bought a cheap and cheerful Singer - does the absolute basics and nothing more!
I am hoping to learn to sew in 2011. Congrats on your first shirt even if it didnt quite go to plan. :)
can't wait to see it!! :)
Congrats on finishing your shirt! I learned how to sew when I was a kid - I used to make clothes for my dolls. LOL. I can't get the sewing machine to work right anymore so it just collects dust in the closet. One day I'll get it out again.... :)
