Sewing: Mantra

Today  I focus on this mantra :
When I sew I have all the skills I need to produce a beautiful well sewn garment.  The machine I use has the correct tension  no matter what stitch I choose.

Sewing: I finished my first shirt

Well, I finished my first shirt.  It is a mess but it is my first shirt and I wore it around the house after I finished clipping the final threads.  My husband was glowing, he was so happy for me.  I am a silly head, so when things  don't "work" out  I make it  "work"  on some level  and it is all fun time after that.  My sewing machine's tension is all off.  I noticed that is works on certain stitches and not the ones  I wanted to use!  So  my stitches have strange tension.  I tested  it  30 times of a scrap piece of fabric and it worked fine, when I started on my shirt  it was all wonky again.  I decided to just keep it that way  after ripping out the stitches  5 times.  I learned a few things  I needed to know  on this shirt  so now  I am off to the next project..soon. Oh  I will post a picture of the shirt on Saturday.

Thrive: 2011

My word for 2011 is THRIVE.

Definition #3 is what I was thinking about, but the word actually chose me.  I asked the question what is my word going to be for 2011 and later  it "dawned" on me that I have been seeking to thrive.  Those closest to me know all the details to why this word is so appropriate.  So this is my focus word..

Vizcaya

A recent visit to Vizcaya, my husband and I had not visited this place together, one of my favorite places in the world.  We took our cameras and walked around for two hours.

Second day sewing

My second day sewing my shirt is almost complete.  The big reveal will be soon after  I hem it and add some extra stitching.

Learning to sew

I decided to take sewing lessons.  My dream of making clothes is coming true.  I look forward to posting more about my adventures in sewing soon.

Tea

How I came to love tea. When I was in middle school and or beginning high school.  I forget which one exactly, I asked my Mom, "What can I drink in the morning to wake up?" She said," Tea."  Hot tea. I do not like the taste of coffee, it doesn't taste healthy to me.  Tea was perfect.  I started drinking standard  Lipton black tea.  Then I was introduced to Green Tea  which has a lot of health benefits...immune system and metabolism.  I also drink white tea and herbal teas..if I drink too much chamomile tea  I get hyper oddly enough.  Tea is a part of my morning and evening routine. I drink it hot, winter, spring, summer, and fall. I used to frequent Starbucks  but they no longer serve my favorite two teas  Green Ginger  and I think the Berryblossom White tea  has been discontinued altogether.  You will find me at home with a cup of tea next to me, this is true right now.

Being a vegan/vegetarian  means  alot to me.  It has been  a road of constantly changing eating habits  and becoming aware that has brought me here today.  I celebrated Thanksgiving eating vegan,  here are a few pictures of the fare.

14 years

Time is a mysterious thing.  I don't quite ever try to understand it.  Today  I realized that according to the calendar.  This Month's end marks 14 years since my father passed.  I have seen my father several times since then of course, because I love it when he makes the cameo appearances that he does in my dreams.  He is always with me and I am so very much like him (a blessing).  I am thankful for having his love in my life everyday of my life...the love lives on forever.

I am a fan of Project runway.  When I found out Nick Verreos was going to be in town  I was excited.  He presented the fashion show at Macy's.  My husband  came late but  he was able to finally meet Nick  who he is a fan of.  The night was fun.  A definite must do again for next year.

I will finally get to posting wedding pictures.  On the day of my wedding I chucked everything I wanted to do with my hair and makeup out the window and just decided to go as simple me...my necklace and dress took on the glamour role.

Home, it feels good to be home.  the kittens are well and beautiful.  Ah  the simple things in life.  Home is where I am happiest.

Montreal

I am in Montreal, this was yesterday during the celebration of St. Jean.  It is a major holiday here.  I was happy to see the locals dress up and celebrate  since we did not go to the big parties downtown.

Bridal Shower

I was surprised when all my co workers got together and got my fiancé in on it to surprise me and throw "us" a bridal shower.  It was complete with vegetarian fare and vegan cake!!! (The cake in the photo was for everyone and was not vegan, unfortunately)

11 days till the day.  So many preparations to be made still.  Having fun and trying to relax and enjoy it all.

a month

In a month,  I will be having a birthday and getting married.  Appointments, packing, invitations, last minute- go get its.  Here we go...happy as can be.

Yesterday's Lunch

Wandering around for a place to eat yesterday, we found Sweet Times.  I saw they had breakfast on the menu and it was past noon, but they serve breakfast all day! (I asked the server.) I opted for the Fruit Salad.  It was very fresh and perfect for a breezy Spring day.

Shopping for the honeymoon. All very casual stuff. I will be able to post pictures because we will have wifi,YEAH..but I won't have cell phone service : (

Good news, my vegetarian sister invited me to return to be part of the design team at her store Everything Scrapbook and Stamps!  She was thinking of me and I her.  I love the way the universe works!

and counting....Planning the honeymoon stage. Passports in hand.  Have to make sure all the local stuff is taken care of too. Just happy to know that Mike and I will soon see his family and friends.

I made this card for Mike a few weeks back. Two years together. :)  and loving each day.  You should see the card he made me!  (he is shy about those things, so I am not actually going to show it..but it is awesome.)

Here is a card that I made for someone else who just got married.  The design is from the current  Posh Designs challenge. I used a technique that I saw from a Tim Holtz grunge rose tutorial.  The shape of the shape is from a Cricut cartridge I borrowed.

Scrapped the hat pictures. Oh my in 2 days it is a hundred days (yes I know that is the way math works) It will soon be here!
