Living: Why I quit using the no poo method

After 4 years of using the no poo method of washing my hair (baking soda and apple cidar vinegar), I am finally calling it quits. My hair was so dry and brittle. I just am not a conditioner kinda gal. I tried using oils, but it seemed to make the other reason I am quitting the no poo method worse. OIL BUILDUP. It seemed that all the clarifying methods I tried only worked temporarily and over time stopped working all together. The copious amounts of oil created a gooey film on my scalp that I could not seem to clean. My comb and brush were always full with lint and this gooey oil combination and I just could not stand it anymore. Click here to see the playlist of my no poo method journey if you are interested in knowing how the process works.

Day 30: Go Vegan the complete list of the 30 days

Here is the list to all the posts  I wrote and made links to for the Go vegan in 30 days.  I hope you find the information  helpful  and feel free to comment  with any questions.

Mind you  not all vegans are created equal..  I am not a junk food vegan.  That is  I refrain from  eating a lot of baked goods and pasta  or fried foods.  I don't add sugar to my tea and  I stay  away from  agave a majority of the time.

I really  hope that you find your new found interest in  or journey  to veganism  as rewarding as I do everyday.  I am here to help if you need, but please read through all the posts  before you send  any questions..Thank you

Namaste.

Day 27 - Go Vegan because even people who don't want to do it - try it

I would  say  everyone knows that  being a vegan is good for you and the planet, but that it  not true  everyone  doesn't know  about eating vegan.  I met one of these people in a doctor's  office, it was the secretary.  I was talking  and I mentioned that I was vegan and her immediate reaction was," What's vegan?"

More than ever  the words Vegan and celebrity and being put together in headlines.  People just want to be better.  They are the role models society look to for trends and  how to live. More and more people are becoming aware of what  vegan means.

Ne- Yo the musician - entertainer  is reportedly made his 2013 New Year's resolution to want to try to become  vegan.  People  stuck  in a certain  mindset  may  not  find living a gentler kinder way easy at first after  eating  like the cruel masses  all their life...We will see if Ne-Yo  can do it,  I know he can if he is serious  about being more humane.

Day 26- Go vegan - food trucks

People  ask me  with  frequency  the  same question:  Where do you eat, like what  restaurants  do you go to?  And it is true  unless you live in a place  like Montreal, Canada  or  some other vegan/ vegetarian  wonderland, the options  of eating  out are slim if you want to be a purist and eat in a vegan only establishment.  Vegguide.org and Happycow.net  offer listings of vegetarian and vegan restaurants.   I also  eat at Whole Foods. Food  trucks  are now offering vegans another option.  Trucks travel  (you know that) so that  is great!  They practically  come to you.

I ate from  Mushaboom  food truck.  They are not organic  unfortunately.  I tried the
Chickpea Parmigiana Burger
Chickpea patty with marinara and Daiya mozzarella

It was quite tasty and  from  my days  of eating Chicken Parmigiana, my  taste buds said, "This tastes like Chicken Parmigiana."  I need to add  I am not sure how accurate by taste bud memory is, so try it for yourself.

Mushaboom is a more of what I think of as a junk food vegan truck.  They serve fries and soda too.
If you are trying to go vegan,  try finding and eating at a vegan  food truck to try the recipes  and possibilities.

Day 16 Go Vegan - Nuts

Time to Go Nuts.

Nuts and seeds are a part of my everyday diet.  I love them  so it is easy.  Cashews, sunflower seeds, and walnuts during lunch are a daily favorite of mine.

read here to find out that nuts and seeds  have healing properties  as do all good foods.

No Poo Day 8

Day 8  no shampoo.  Hair  doesn't smell anymore when it starts looking like it needs to be cleaned.  I am on my same schedule of every other day  like when on regular shampoo.  Same formula as Day 6.  This time I blow dried my hair.  It came out nice with no added products. Sorry  no picture  today,  I am writing this late.

No Poo Day 6

Day 6, I washed my hair this morning. This time with a cup and a half of water to 1 and about a half tablespoons of baking soda and I put it in a water bottle. I did not use the whole mixture but I rather the more now than need more later method. I rinsed the top to the bottom of my hair with a cup of water with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and I did not use the whole mix. And I did a cold water rinse. I then let my hair dry naturally to a point and finished it off with a blow dryer and my hair got a little flyaway. But my hair feels like I have hair products in it. It is awesome and my hair feels thick.

No POO day 4

I am writing the results from yesterday. So using less baking soda and only rinsing the middle to ends resulted in a grease-free hair day yesterday, however I am not sure if it was the weather's influence on my hair- very rainy-- most likely it was my hair...but my hair was really frizzy on the top..I think it needed the apple cidar vinegar rinse. Today is day five and my hair is super curly with these amazing -looks like I just came from the beach- curls. I can tell that tonight I will have to wash my hair or I might just forego a day, if I don't plan on going anywhere, just to see what happens.

No Poo Day 2

The the grease (the oily hair) came quick for me.  See the video first  to see my explanation of it.  I decided to use a little less baking soda  less than a tablespoon - I didn't measure how much less and  I also decided to not rinse the top of my hair with the apple cider vinegar  just the middle to the ends of my hair.  My hair  again looked better.  Just as a note : with  regular  Shampoo  I used to wash my hair every  two days  not everyday.  So I was surprised that it got so greasy so fast.. but it is all part of my process.  I am still trying to understand the chemistry of it all.

DE-tox.. continuing... no longer sleeping Wide Awake

In January of this year, my eyes were opened wide to cruel animal testing procedures that are being performed for  cosmetic companies.  I threw out many of my products and switched to companies that didn't animal test.  Two things  that I changed that bring me to this blog post are lotion and deodorant.  I went from chemical filled Suave  to 100% Organic Shea Butter  and from Degree to Tom's of Maine Deodorant.  Within a month,  I noticed it.  I woke up one morning and just noticed it..  What I am going to say  may sound gross  but,"  I didn't stink!"  I don't wear deodorant to bed and when I woke up  it was shower time before, not anymore  I had detoxed all those impurities out- that caused me to stink.  Commercial deodorant is a scam.  It makes you stink and lotions and shampoos,,all making us  cover our bodies with unnecessary chemicals  and people wonder why they are sick.
I started  checking the labels more carefully  on the products  I bought  Avalon Organics  (a scam) and Tom's of Maine (also  not chemical free).  Avalon  organics is the worst,  when there are organic preservatives options  they don't use them.  I am looking for a facial routine, but I decided to work on the deodorant first.  So today  my husband  made a batch of deodorant in the kitchen  with 6 ingredients..  Three of them  edible: baking soda, corn starch, and coconut oil.  The other three ingredients are essential oils.. sweet orange, oregano, and peppermint.  So this week I am going to experiment,  One pit Tom's, and one pit natural and organic deodorant.
